Innovation in a Time of Change: Introducing SiTUATE – The Digital Version of Structured On-the-Job Training
TIME: 9AM to 12PM (MALAYSIA TIME GMT/UTC+8)

Many in the HRD community in Malaysia know of my role in introducing S-OJT to the field nearly forty years ago. Since that time, S-OJT has proven to be one of the most efficient and effective training approaches in organizations, since it features having a planned process for an experienced employee to train a novice employee on a specific unit of work in the actual work setting. Now, much change has occurred in our workplaces, and our training practices must respond to those changes. But our responses must be in a thoughtful way, based on research and best practice.
This session introduces SiTUATE, the new digital version of S-OJT, as a necessary next manifestation of this training approach. The session also provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to use the platform to analyze a task and develop an S-OJT module. SiTUATE has the same features of traditional face to face S-OJT, but doing it using a digital platform. This session introduces SiTUATE to audiences in Malaysia for the first time.

Work in the Future and HRD’s Role
TIME: 9AM to 12PM (MALAYSIA TIME GMT/UTC+8)

Among many changes in the work of the future, we will consider:
-
Impact of Covid on the Workplace
-
Technology advances reflected in the workplace
-
Work from home and resulting impact on urban environments
-
Geographic displacement resulting from climate change
-
Urban agriculture
-
Decreasing travel for work, both domestic and international
-
Shift in jobs with the disappearance of many jobs, not just low skill workers
-
Equality of opportunities for women finally achieved
-
Fuller acceptance of inclusion and diversity based on many factors
-
Recognition that university education is not required
In addition to discussing these likely futures, we will generate other potential changes. We will then move to working through case studies reflecting some of these changes and do some problem solving about how HRD can help workers and employers adjust to these changes.

Publishing Non-Empirical Research Articles in HRDR
TIME: 9AM to 12PM (MALAYSIA TIME GMT/UTC+8)
Recognizing the value of non-empirical research, the AHRD has dedicated HRDR (SSCI indexed with Impact Factor 2.765 as of 2019) as one of its flagship journals with an aim to advance HRD through theory building.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide attendees with guidance on how to publish quality non-empirical research articles for publication in HRDR. We use the term non-empirical research to refer to any research that does not involve researchers conducting fieldwork that requires them to collect primary data from human subjects. In this workshop, we will focus on four basic types of articles in HRDR: Conceptual and theoretical articles, literature reviews, theory-building research methods, and foundations of HRD.

A Hands On Workshop Preparing Impactful Publication Materials with The E.A.G.L.E. Navigator
TIME: 2.30PM to 5.30PM (MALAYSIA TIME GMT/UTC+8)

Developing innovative HR who are capable to develop impactful project proposals and communicate them to grant providers can lead towards building up competitive organizations. This workshop introduces the basic operations of the E.A.G.L.E. Navigator to educated professionals, adult learners and graduate students who are involved or planning to embark on HRD related research. The E.A.G.L.E. Navigator was specially developed to facilitate the preparation of publications outputs while its users are continuously building up their information database. This workshop is a hands on workshop where participants will prepare an impactful research abstract and the first draft of a conference manuscript.

Please note that our conference fee is inclusive of full access to pre-conference workshops. If any participant
wishes to attend the pre-conference workshop only, pre-conference fee will apply as noted below.
